Providing residential rehabilitation to adults with a brain injury in Letterkenny

Loughnagin is a 5-bedroom detached home providing residential rehabilitation to adults with a brain injury. The service was opened in 2017 and is managed by a Local Service Manager, assisted by a Team Leader and team of Rehabilitation Assistants. Loughnagin provides individualised on-site and community-based rehabilitation supports designed to maximise quality of life, while fostering autonomy, personal growth and development.

Facilities

Loughnagin provides 5 individual tenant bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, a communal kitchen, independent skills teaching kitchen, living area, bathrooms and laundry/utility facilities.

Loughnagin also has its own garden with a large, wheelchair accessible polytunnel, used by tenants and the Acquired Brain Injury Ireland Donegal Community Gardening Group. Sleep in and office accommodation is provided for the rehabilitation team.

Support Services

Loughnagin offers a range of neurorehabilitation activities for tenants, including:

  • Activities of Daily Living: Activities of Daily Living: Cookery, cleaning, laundry, budget management, intimate and personal care, shopping, contribution to the general upkeep of the house, inter-dependent living.
  • Cognitive Skills: Planning, organising and memory strategies.
  • Behavioural Skills: All individuals have individualised behavioural support plans which are reviewed regularly with the HSE, neuropsychologist and rehabilitation staff team.
  • Physical Skills: Access to occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech and language therapy.
  • Health and General Wellbeing: Support to access GP appointments, hospital appointments, chiropody appointments, medication management, dentistry appointments.
  • Community Activities: Support to access meaningful community daytime and night-time activities of the individual’s choice.
